Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Corruption has been a pivotal issue in studies of governance and development in China and beyond. Meanwhile, anticorruption, which used to be merely an auxiliary topic in association with corruption, has recently gained an independent status and become a topic of interest for students of Chinese studies in its own right. This course will introduce and explore major issues under both topics from a comparative perspective and with a multidisciplinary approach. Discussions will be directed not only to the factors that are universally shared in all corrupt practices but also those local, contextual and cultural elements that cultivate corruption in certain societies where the problem of corruption is more deep-rooted than in others.
To improve its educational effects and the learning experience of students, this course will incorporate certain elements of the Anticorruption University Module developed by the UNODC to increase the level of students’ participation and interaction during class activities.
