In die VU Einführung in die Digital Korean Studies können aufgrund der zu vielen Interessent*innen nur Studierende aufgenommen werden, die sich aufgrund der erfüllten Voraussetzungen zum BA-SE I anmelden dürfen (altes und neues Curriculum!).
Das gilt für Studierende, die bereits "vorgemerkt" im Anmeldesystem sind, als auch für Studierende, die noch im Status "angelegt Voraussetzungsüberprüfung" sind.

Alle anderen, die die Voraussetzungen zum BA-SE I NICHT erfüllen, mögen sich bitte wieder abmelden, um ihre gesetzten Punkte bei einer anderen LV vielleicht besser einzusetzen.

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of Digital Korean Studies research. It will introduce the discipline of digital humanities and its use in Korean Studies. It will introduce specific digital humanities tools and how these can be used along with Korean data(bases).

What you'll learn:
* What the term “digital humanities” means in the context of Korean Studies
* How common digital tools work and examples of Korea-related projects using them.
* How to use free tools to create visual text analysis and visualizations.
* What Metadata is and how it is important for the classification and organization of data.

Assessment and permitted materials

The course will be graded through one written multiple choice exam (40%) and four homework assignments (60%).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

To receive a passing grade for the course, a minimum grade of 60% is needed.

The grading scale for the course is as follows:
"Sehr gut"/very good (91-100%)
"Gut"/good (81-90%)
"Befriedigend"/satisfactory (71-80%)
"Genügend"/adequate (60-70%)
"Nicht Genügend"/fail (0-60%)

Weight of the individual assessments: one written multiple-choice exam (40%) and four homework assignments (60%).

Examination topics

There will be a written multiple-choice exam that is based on the PowerPoints used in the course and the readings that are uploaded on Moodle. Students will work through four homework assignments that are uploaded on Moodle. For these assignments students can work at their own pace and hand in their work on the deadline of January 31, 2025.

Reading list

Literature and readings will be announced during class and made available to students through Moodle.
