Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In this seminar we will deal with the recent history of various African states, particularly the period of the struggle for independence between 1950 and 1980. The focus for us is on the role of popular music, which was used as a commentary, pioneer or active means of decolonization. In addition to Zimbabwean Chimurenga, Cape Verdean Funaná, Congolese Rumba and Ghanaian Highlife, students will delve into selected case studies and discuss central postcolonial concepts and theories.
