Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In this class students will be shown how to discover and document the structure and lexicon of unknown languages, both in theory and in one concrete exemplary case. The use of the relevant software will also be demonstrated.
Assessment and permitted materials
Preparation and analysis of a short informant session with a written mini-summary of the elicited data.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Participants are to be familiarised with the main methods for eliciting linguistically relevant data and will learn the joys and problems which this entails through the exemplary analysis of a language which none of us knows.
Examination topics
Conventional teaching and group fieldwork with an informant, with eLearning.
