Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course will introduce the concepts necessary for understanding Celtic languages in a linguistic context: synchronic and diachronic linguistics and their application to the study of the Celtic languages. To this end, the course will begin with a general descriptive introduction to the Celtic languages. As the languages are examined in more depth, critical concepts from general, theoretical, and historical linguistics will be introduced, allowing a progressively deeper understanding of the Celtic languages and linguistics.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The goals of this course are to familiarize students with the Celtic languages and their synchronic and diachronic characteristics. Additionally, students should, after successful completion of the course, be able to understand simple lectures on Celtic linguistic topics.
Examination topics
Lecture will be the primary method of instruction, but a certain amount of discussion is expected. Students should be prepared to think about and give answers to questions posed by the instructor.
