Aims, contents and method of the course

The course is an introduction to the Hittite language and script.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written test at the end of the term.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The cours aims to provide a basic knowledge of Hittite grammar, vocabulary and Hittite cuneiform. In addition, it aims to familiarize the students with the Hittite tradition and its cultural background.

Examination topics

Description of the basic features of Hittite phonology, script, morphology and syntax; exercises on various grammatical features, vocabulary and cuneiform script, background information to Hittite culture and history, introduction to topics of Hittitological studies.
