Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The students are to be introduced to lexical work within the framework of the planned courses. After being taught tips and tools, they can try them out online by writing their own articles according to the editorial guidelines of the "Oesterreichisches Musiklexikon" (oeml), which will be published in the lexicon if they meet the editorial standards.
Content-related topic areas: General introduction to biography, overview of the development of music lexicography, problems of lexicography and biographical research, tips for writing lexicon articles, analogue tools, online tools, oeml online, practical lexicon work.

Assessment and permitted materials

Examination-immanent course (compulsory attendance). Preparation and presentation of texts. Writing own articles for the oeml online.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Basic knowledge of Austrian music history and Kurrent script is advantageous. Independent acquisition of reading knowledge of Kurrent script in the course of the course (assistance will be given). The presentation and the independently written encyclopaedia articles will be assessed.

Examination topics

Examination of the theoretical aspects and historical development of lexicography (text presentation); learning and practical application of lexicographic tools.
