Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this course, an introduction to traditional Balinese and Javanese Gamelan will be given. Gamelan is a special kind of music ensemble having its roots in Indonesia but is already well known in the world. The students learn to play Balinese and Javanese Gamelan, get introduced to the culture of Indonesia and get an understanding of the basic musical rules of Balinese and Javanese Gamelan.

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The students are evaluated on the following criteria:
1. The students are only allowed to miss 20 % of the lectures.
2. A student’s ability of mastering the taught techniques of playing Balinese and Javanese Gamelan.
3. The students have to perform the learned songs that have been taught during the semester.
