Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The concept of phonetically unrealized elements (PRO, trace/copy, ellipsis, silent topic etc.) has been assumed in syntactic theories for many years. For the licencing of these elements, an antecedent seems to be involved in one way or another. Recently, Kayne and van Riemsdijk have extended the inventory of empty elements by assuming silent verbs and nouns that don't seem to have antecedents. Those will be the central topic of the course.
