Aims, contents and method of the course

This is a practical course, based on the lecture's long experience in the construction of certain musical instruments common in parts of Africa.

Assessment and permitted materials

oral examination and demonstration of competence on home-made instruments by students

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The students will be stimulated creatively to solve by themselves problems of sound, scale, tuning and harmony.

Examination topics

Particular emphasis will be given on learning the construction and playing techniques of these instruments, now often rare.
