Aims, contents and method of the course

The course offers an overview on the main approaches of text linguistics and discourse analysis. Following a short characterization of the concepts of "discourse" and "text", the course deals with theories of cohesion and coherence. In the second part of the semester the course will deal with different genre approaches in text- and discourse research.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam at the end of semester.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Apart from providing basic knowledge on discourse and text linguistic concepts, students should develop their competence in analyzing texts by short joint exercises during the course.

Lecture combined with short joint exercises during the course.
