Aims, contents and method of the course

An overview of the epistemological foundations of linguistic study is offered, centred around problems of reasoning and methodological reflection in a broader philosophical perspective, with special emphasis on interdisciplinary incentives of linguistic theorizing. In terms of this approach, it is possible to focus on particular aspects meeting the interests of the participants, be they related to social sciences, cultural studies or other branches of study.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Primary goal: The relevance of philosophical and epistemological foundation of linguistic theorizing will be brought to the attention of the audience. Based on selected texts from recent periods the participants will be guided towards autonomous reflection on linguistic methodology.
Secondary goals:
Development of critical faculties with respect to the adoption of theoretical concepts
Acquisition of basic knowledge of current issues in epistemology and philosophy of language
Enhancement of autonomous reflection on the specific problems of the formation of linguistic knowledge

Examination topics

During the first part oral presentation, enhanced with multimedial equipment (data projector, e-learning platform "Fronter"); during the second part oral presentations by student participants.
