Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Presentation and comparison of theories of phonology, morphology and the lexicon, and of the relationship between these three from the 60’s to the present day.

Assessment and permitted materials

Regular participation, talk with handout, seminar paper.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Participants are to compare the most important theories of phonology, morphology and the lexicon, and thereby should gain a feeling for the complex interactions in this area. Formally, they are to learn how to plan a handout, to hold a comprehensible talk on a sub-area of the material, and to write up this talk as a seminar paper (max. 20 pages).

Examination topics

The main theories of the relevant areas will be presented in an initial phase of about 4 weeks. After that the participants will hold their talks, each followed by a discussion of the questions arising.
