Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The different dialects of the Irish language, in particular similarities and differences between them, will be discussed, especially with respect to showing how it is visible in written texts. Basic pronunciation along with the correct emphasis in the Irish language will be taught. To this end, simple dialogues are used for practice and are acted out as in theatre. This course is suitable for all those who have, at some point (also a longer time ago) have spent a little time with the Irish language.
Assessment and permitted materials
Oral: constant monitoring during the class and reading out loud.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The goal of this course is to be able to recognize the main characteristics of the different dialects and to improve oral skills when speaking Irish.
Examination topics
This course will be divided into 4 lengthy blocks of 5 full hours each spread over the semester so that there is a realistic chance that the students can immerse themselves for a short time in the Irish language and actually be able to distinguish the dialects. In the longer stretches between blocks, students can practise at home with the help of recordings.
