Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture provides a survey of the research field of Applied Linguistics. We introduce and discuss the history of the field, sub-disciplines that are considered to be part of Applied Linguistics as well as their central theories, concepts and methods. A particular focus is placed on those research topics that are specifically dealt with at the Department of Linguistics.

The lecture will take place in hybrid mode (on site and online).

Assessment and permitted materials

Written examination (test with general questions concerning the various topics discussed in the lecture). No materials or tools, except for paper and pencil, are permitted.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students have an overview of the field of Applied Lingustics, they know relevant sub-disciplines as well as central theories, concepts and methods. They are able to apply those to simple cases.
The exam of this lecture is passed if at least 26 points (out of max. 50) have been reached.

Lecture, extended with discussions in the accompanying tutorial. Detailed handouts and further readings are provided on Moodle.
