Assessment and permitted materials
Written exam on site (8 multiple choice questions + one text question); there are four possible dates for taking the exam.
During the exam no material is admitted except a (non-digital) dictionary for students with non-native German.
The language of the exam is German, but the text question amy also be answered in English, French, Italian or Spanish.

The course gives an overview of the so-called Indo-European language family in modern and Ancient times covering all its 12 branches (Anatolian, Tocharian, Indic, Iranian, Albanian, Armenian, Greek, Italic, Celtic, Germanic, Baltic, Slavic). Students will also become familiar with theoretical concepts of language change and with the main features of the reconstructed grammatical system of Proto-Indo-European.Aim
The class is a preparation for advanced and specialized courses in particular Indo-European languages and for any linguistic research related to Ancient languages and diachronic linguistic questions.Method
Lecture aided by PowerPoint slides (ca. 60-80 slides per unit) in class room, with audio recording (no live streaming); the slides and audio recordings will be uploaded on the Moodle Learning Platform as well as a bibliography. The detailed program of every unit is available on the Moodle Platform as well.Quiz
