Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The method of discourse analysis in the fields of contact linguistics and multilingualism research shall be the focus of this seminar: We will discuss what the principle research interests of contact linguistics are, how it connects with multilingualism research, and why discourse analysis is an appropriate method in order to address certain research questions. For this aim, we will draw on a variety of studies with different (linguistic, spatial, and temporal) research sites, foci and insights. We will also draw on different methods of discourse analysis and discuss their advantages, but also shortcomings and limitations for the grasping and comprehension of phenomena inherent to contact linguistics. It is the aim of this course that students become acquainted with the method of discourse analysis in the fields of contact linguistics and multilingualism research in order to develop their own research question. They will have read the relevant literature and gained an overview over the central approaches and topics. Moreover, they will become familiar with the scientific genre of the poster and present a topic in relation with the seminar at the very end.
