Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
Regular attendance, presentation of own project during the course and term paper. All written examinations will be checked by the Turnitin text similarity checker ("plagiarism test"). Final test on all areas which were discussed in the course.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Acquisition of skills in applying basic methods of Applied Linguistics and application of these skills in an empirical project.
Examination topics
Input by instructors; students are required to design a research concept; writing of a research journal.PLEASE NOTE: During the home-learning phase in the context of COVID-19 protection the oral presentation will be partly substituted by written documents that are provided on Moodle. For questions and discussions, a forum will be set up on Moodle.

This course aims at providing students with basic skills in various methods of Applied Linguistics, such as participant observation, development of questionnaires, interview, group discussions, experiments (e.g., matched guise test) and various methods of text and discourse analysis.
In this course, the methods are introduced and discussed. The participants are expected to design a research concept for an empirical Bachelor's thesis, which will be elaborated in the next semester within the BA-Seminar in Applied Linguistics 1.Depending on circumstances, the course will take place in distance learning or hybrid.
