Aims, contents and method of the course

In this seminar, you will learn about how language is processed cognitively and neurophysiologically as a consolidation of the class "introduction to psycholinguistics". In the course of the seminar, you will specialize in a specific research question, select empirical studies on this topic, and create a meta-analysis on the topic. For this purpose, we will discuss important approaches and statistical methods of meta-analysis in the seminar. You will then summarize your meta-analysis in a BA thesis. The seminar is designed in such a way that, if you are interested, you can conduct your own empirical study in another BA seminar.

The seminar will be taught in English.

Assessment and permitted materials

Active participation is expected.

A BA thesis has to be written by the end of the seminar.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Participation is expected (max of 2 unexcused absences).
The grade for the BA thesis will contribute 70% to the overall grade. The other 30% will be based on project presentations and discussions in class. The BA thesis can be written in German or English.

Examination topics

You will search for the most relevant studies in the specific field of neuro- and psycholinguistics you will be specializing in during the seminar. You will present your topic and the respective studies in the seminar and summarize them qualitatively and quantitatively.
