Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this course I will explain and compare the functionality of scripts used for Indo-european languages. The students are expected to actively study the phonetics and script systems of the languages and learn to read and to some extent write them. Options are: Hittite cuneiform, Luvian pictography, Old Persian cuneiform, Devanāgarī, Tocharian Brāhmī, Avestan, Linear B, Cyprian syllabography, the Aramaic, Greek, Armenian, Venetic, Lepontic and Gothic alphabet, the Anatolian, Slavonic and South Italic alphabets, the Iberic script, runes, and ogham.
