Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The content of the proseminar is theory formation and method development in historical-comparative linguistics, especially with regard to recent interdisciplinary interconnections. Students are expected to prepare units by provided literature and to discuss them in the group.
Assessment and permitted materials
One paper will be covered in each unit. For each of these, short summaries (short sentences) and 1-2 critical questions are to be uploaded before the respective unit; these written papers account for 50% of the grade. Furthermore, a paper has to be presented once in a unit (30% of the grade), the remaining 20% of the grade is based on the participation in the discussion.The use of AI programs to automatically generate the summaries or papers is NOT permitted.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Participation in class is mandatory; active participation in the discussion will get evaluated; all paper summaries have to be handed in in time.
Examination topics
Papers provided on moodle. We will read 12 papers, at least 50% of them by written by female scholars.
