Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Linguistic discourse analysis explores larger sets (corpora) of texts mainly from mass media with the aim of reconstructing the collective “knowledge” of a given community of actors from trans-textual structures, patterns and recurrences. Theoretically, the discipline draws on philosophical theory of discourse (most prominently represented by the work of M. Foucault) which has been adapted and transformed to the basis of empirically oriented linguistic research since the 1990s. The course introduces basics, theories and methods of this form of „transtextual analysis of language and media“. Furthermore, we will investigate into current media discourse (with a focus on recent political topics).
