Das Proseminar findet ab 12.4. geblockt statt, wodurch jeder Termin drei Unterrichtseinheiten (3 x 45 min) + 15 min Pause umfasst. Dies wird ein konzentriertes Arbeiten und Diskutieren ermöglichen.
Das Proseminar findet online statt, voraussichtlich per Zoom über Moodle (aktive Mikro- und Kameraeinstellung erwünscht).
Eine Vorbesprechung wird am 22.3. 14 Uhr per Zoom über Moodle stattfinden.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This proseminar focuses on linguistic minority research. We will address central question such as definitions of "minority", the status of languages in multilingual societies and related political, economical and social challenges and its consequences for education and language policy. We will discuss issues of language vitality, shift and loss as well as aspects of language documentation and revitalisation and gain insights into the field of language contact, pidgin- and creole languages, code switchung and translanguaging and will discuss aspects of (de)colonisation.
Learning aims:
- Students will gain insights into the research field of minority studies
-Students will be familiar with central notions and concepts of minoritised/regional and minority languages
Students will be able to design a research project (seminar paper in written form) in minority studies based on knowledge acquired in the seminar

Assessment and permitted materials

The seminar is will be blocked, starting with March 22. The units will last for three hours. This will allow for focused discussions. Performance evaluation is based on three tasks, which are related to projects done by the students: (1) reading assignments and (online) discussions, (2) oral presentation, (3) written assignment on a topic-related student project.
A plagiat software may be applied on the written assignment.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Regular (unexcused absence is possible once; further abscences can be sanctioned with additional tasks) and active participation.
All tasks have to be completed successfully.

Reading list

A reading list will be made available at the beginning of the semester. Texts will be in German and English. The course language is German.
