Assessment and permitted materials
This course is examination-immanent. Performance assessment is based on attendance and participation in the course as well as the following partial performances: Participation (10%), preparation and design of a unit on a given topic and literature (40%), and
Written work (50%).In this course, ‘AI tools’ are used to critically scrutinise and discuss their use. Their use is therefore also desired and permitted for the written submission in compliance with the citation agreements, but must be subject to reflection.

In this course, you will learn the basics of the transdisciplinary field of writing studies. You will be introduced to the basics of writing studies, writing didactics and writing counselling. Based on current developments in writing research, the practical aspects of writing science, writing didactics and writing counselling in times of AI and the changes triggered by it will be dealt with. Product-, process- and genre-orientated approaches will be at the centre of interest as well as the observation of one's own writing process and the reflection of this experience. We will read central academic texts from writing research and writing didactics and work on practice-oriented fields of application of writing with reference to Large Language Models and their effects on the concept of ‘writing’.Participants will be able to categorise the fields of ‘writing didactics’ and ‘writing counselling’ within the research field of ‘writing studies’, name their questions, methods and areas of application and link them to disciplinary research interests,
reflect on their own writing biography and their own writing, apply central methods of academic writing under guidance, reflect on and critically discuss potential opportunities, changes and challenges brought into the field by AI tools.Contents:

Basic features of writing didactics
Basics of writing counselling and its research
Basic features of the functioning of large language models (‘AI’)
Central chatbots and relevant AI tools in the writing process
Basic features of a critical applicationTeaching:
The course alternates between different didactic formats (lecture, group work, reflection) with the aim of research-based learning.
