Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Being a sequel to three courses helt in the winter term 2007/2008, in the summer term 2008, and in the winter term 2008/2009, this course meant to be an introductory course for students of Indo-European linguistics will again concentrate on the Indo-European background of Ancient Greek phonology and morphology. Following basically the structuring of what is still the least worse manual in this field by today, that is, Helmut Rix's Historische Grammatik des Griechischen, I will correct the innumerable blunders and shortcomings to be found in this extremely ill-informed and misleading book, which attests to very low scholarly standards in current Indo-European studies of Germany.

Assessment and permitted materials

According to the preferences of the audience.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

It is the aim of the course to provide beginners of Indo-European studies with an elementary knowledge of historical phonology and morphology of Ancient Greek, and/or advanced students with an even better knowledge of historical phonology and morphology of Ancient Greek than they had before.

Examination topics

The methods used will be mostly those of the Vienna School of Indo-European Linguistics.
