Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
We will read Rigvedic hymns and discuss topics of diachronic grammar; the course aims at getting familiar with the problems of Rigvedic philology and to acquire the skill of working with Rigvedic text material for philological and linguistic purposes.The text, translations and secondary literature will be uploaded on the Moodle Platform; aids and handbooks will be presented and discussed during term.
Assessment and permitted materials
Regular attendance, preparation of the texts, active discussion. Any absence has to be excused beforehand except in the case of illness.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Basic knowledge of Historical linguistics is required (as follow-up of the VO Historical Vedic Grammar) or knowledge of basic Sanskrit; texts will be prepared at home, no hands-on translation skills are required.
Examination topics
Preparation of the text (30%), discussion (20%) and translation of a new text as homework with the deadline 30/8/2020 (50%).
