Aims, contents and method of the course

This course provides an introduction to Gandhari, a Middle Indo-Aryan language, focusing on its philological and linguistic features. The primary goal is to provide students with a basic understanding of Gandhari grammar, exploring both its synchronic and diachronic aspects. In addition, the course provides an overview of the historical and cultural context in which Gandhari originated and flourished.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

There are no prerequisites. The benchmark for passing the course is a score of at least 60% on the written exam.

Grading scale:
1 (very good) 100-90 points
2 (good) 89-81 points
3 (satisfactory) 80-71 points
4 (adequate) 70-60 points
5 (unsatisfactory) 59-0 points

Examination topics

The written exam will consist of topics covered during the course, i.e. Gandhari philology, linguistics and cultural background.
