Aims, contents and method of the course

Acquisition of basic knowledge in all fields of the Old Persian (OP) language and its history, structure and tradition -- detailed exposition of the corpus of the Achaemenid inscriptions and its cuneiform script, which being invented on royal order about 522 BC, may represent the oldest system of graphemes referring directly to the phonems of the language to be written.

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral examination (colloquium) at the term's end -- questions and résumés at the beginning of each lecture unit.

Attention and repetition.

The contents of the lecture in broad outline -- a special subject chosen therefrom in every detail.
