Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This compulsory course for doctoral and master's students is intended to accompany students in the course of their work and to give them the opportunity to report on and discuss the progress of their work. Theoretical approaches and methods will be addressed as well as questions concerning the research and writing process and the presentation of research results. This is a discussion seminar for master students to prepare for, elaborate, finalize and speak about their individual thesis projects. There is also room for speaking about problems arising in the course of this process, identifiying shortcomings and possibly learn from one another.
The course will be taught in English and it will be discussion-oriented. Students' active participation is greatly encouraged.

Assessment and permitted materials

Presentation and/or written reports on ongoing or planned qualification work. Power point presentations (to be uploaded on moodle) of the own intended or already performed master thesis project as "kick off " material to start in-class discussion of one's project with the other master students. Two written homeworks (related to the own work). Active participation in classes also entails a maximum missing time allowed equals 180 minutes (3h) in total or an equivalent of 2 regular sessions.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Preparation, presentation and discussion of the progress of their thesis or dissertation. Active participation in the discussions, power point presentation and active mandatory "buddy meetings" (discussion exchange) with other class mates (at least 2 per month, or 5-6 per semester) and interest into the field of focus of master thesis and interest into the others' projects as well.
