Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This seminar will focus on the properties of psych(ological verbs) (e.g. fear, frighten, please). Taking as a point of departure, Landau's discussion of the special character of these verbs, we will describe their behavior within a language and across languages and discuss possible syntactic analyses of their properties.

Assessment and permitted materials

Students are expected to do the readings before coming to class, attend class, participate actively, make a presentation with a handout, which will take place on the last session of the seminar, and write a squib analysing something having to do with the topic of the seminar. Details will be discussed in class.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students should be familiar with literature on argument alternations.

Examination topics

The content discussed in class.
