Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
This course is immanent to examinations. The performance assessment is carried out through attendance and participation in the course as well as the following partial performances:
Preparation and design of a unit on a given topic and literature (30%)
Preparation and presentation of a survey or evaluation method in the context of a methods café with colleagues (20%)
Writing an exposé on a (fictitious) writing studies project OR writing a research report on a topic (50%)
All materials provided in the course as well as independently researched literature on the topic of the master thesis can be used.

In this course you will learn about the basics of writing didactics and writing counselling as a part of the new interdisciplinary field of writing studies. Based on current developments in writing research, we will discuss the practical aspects of writing stidies, writing didactics and writing counselling in times of AI as well as the implications and changes AI brings to current discussions. We will focus on product-, process- and genre-oriented approaches as well as on the observation of our own writing process and its reflection. We will read central scientific texts of writing research and writing didactics and work on practice-oriented fields of application of writing.Participants will be able to
classify the fields of "writing didactics" and "writing counselling" within the research field of "writing studies",
name their questions, methods and areas of application and to connect them with disciplinary research interests,
reflect on their own writing biography and their own writing,
apply central methods of academic writing under guidance,
reflect on and critically discuss potential opportunities, changes and challenges brought into the field by AI tools.Contents:
Research fields and methods of the interdisciplinary writing studies
Theoretical pillars and basic concepts of writing studies
Basic features of writing didactics
Basic features of writing counselling and its research
Basic features of the functioning of AI systems and central toolsThe course alternates between different didactic formats (lecture, group work, reflection) with the aim of research-based learning.
