Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Modern Irish texts and the connection between the written and spoken languages will be analysed. The structure of the language will be made clearer and vocabulary built up. This course is intended for beginners, who have spent one semester learning the basic structures of modern Irish (no matter where!) attending. Others are also welcome, but some basic knowledge will be assumed. However, most of the basics will be repeated on an ongoing basis while analyzing texts. It should also be possible for total beginners to complete the course successfully with a bit of extra work, particularly at the beginning of the course.Exam criteria: The ability to reproduce the subject matter worked on during the lessons in written (analysing texts) and oral form (pronunciation - reading a text out loud) and also to explain relevant contexts. The student should be able to work on and understand a text independently at the end of this course and also be able read with correct pronunciation.
Assessment and permitted materials
Continuous assessment and attendance are essential. Each student must at some point read and analyse a short text.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The goal is the introduction to simple structures of the Irish language, building up vocabulary and introduce the students to the correct pronunciation of Irish using texts. The student should be capable of working on simple Irish texts independently at the end of this course.
Examination topics
Taught through Irish and German (English also possible)
