Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The most ancient layer of Sanskrit is one of the most important sources for the reconstruction of PIE. The main focus of the presentation lies with classes that have an important impact on both traditional and recent questions of PIE morphology. On the other hand, irregularities still found in the nominal inflection of Classical Sanskrit find an explanation.
In order to attend the class basic knowledge of Sanskrit is, of course, an advantage, but it is not obligatory.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The aim of the class is to make students acquainted with Vedic word forms, with the use of secondary literature, and with basic problems and questions of Vedic philology and grammar.
