Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture deals with the history of Celtic Britain from the Iron Age to the Middle Ages. It will examine the various reasons for the development of centres of power and the influence of Romans, Christians and Anglo-Saxons on these developments.

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Aim of the lecture is to create an overall knowledge in the history of Celtic Britain. By discussing current problems of research, students will be able to judge between relevant historical arguments in literature.

Examination topics

Knowledge in the overall history of Celtic Britain will be supplemented by discussing special areas of research. Dealing with questions of textual transmission and interpretation will highten the awareness for these problems and will encourage students to deal with historical sources on their own. There will be an exam at the end of the term.
