Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Introduction to Modern Irish - students will practise basic elements in the structure and grammar of the Irish language. This course is meant to complement the parallel lecture in Irish. Students will develop basic reading skills using easy texts.

Assessment and permitted materials

attendance, general participation , continuous small checks of material learned

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The goal is to practise the structures of the Irish language, to develop basic vocabulary so that they can understand simple texts. The student should be able to work independently on the Irish language with the help of an Irish dictionary by the end of the semester.

Examination topics

The students will do practical exercises, also at home. Material from the lecture which are still unclear will be explained again.

Reading list

I recommend, that every student has a dictionary (e.g. Foclóir Póca, Publ. An Gúm). There are alternatives in the internet (focloir.ie) but they often give the student too much information. Working with small compact dictionary is generally easier.
