Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
From "Cléopatre" to "Princess Lillifee", from "Cinderella" to "Annie Get Your Gun", from "Evita" to the "Wicked" witches, there are multiple visions of femininity in musicals and musical films showing a big variety of contemporary concepts of women and their ways of living. Women are presented as nice or exploited children, as decorative ornaments of powerful men, as lovers, mothers, teachers, artists, politicians, as sexual workers or objects, criminals, witches and sorceresses - idealistic visions are opposed to discriminatory presentations. Beginning with depictions of historical and geographical diversities of women's rights and living conditions, the seminar will analyze pictures of women as presented in many examples of musicals and musical films.
