Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Film is an audio-visual media. Sound and music are as important as the visuals. Film studies have just begun to recognize and research this crucial aspect. Research on filmmusic make sense only when it is done interdisciplinary. It is essential that film and musical scholars work together. The analysis of the music has to consider the narrative and dramaturgical context in which it is used. But this analysis has to start with the analysis of the music itself.
This course give an overview about the history and theory of filmmusic and assigns students to make their own analysis.
