Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Filmmaking today is more and more depending on a global and transnational production envirment. Thus also many films are depicting transnational or tanscultural conflicts and stories. What does this mean in context of Euopean cinema? Europe as a transnational cinematic space is focus of this seminar. Analyzing films from several European countries it will be discussed what impact transnational and transcultural border crossing has on the aesthetics of these films and how this infects the definition of a recent European cinema.

Active participation, oral presentation with handout or written essay, final paper
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Anaylisis and historical, theoretical, political and social contextualization of movies from different national cinemas within the European context.
Understanding of theoretical ideas and concepts in context of recent trends in the European film culture

Preparation of material, analyzing sequences, presentations, working groups
