(z.B. Übung "Medientheorie" mit Schreibwerkstatt)

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Only through a precise use of terms is it possible to describe and reflect the diversity of theatrical forms (performance, dance, drama, opera, show, ritual, event, street scene, etc.) in terms of form, dynamics or function. One difficulty here is the fact that not only the phenomena but also the terms are subject to historical change.
This is especially true of the term "theatre" itself, which is why academic texts sometimes use definitional formulations, while on the other hand it is not uncommon to write of "the" theatre without clarifying what exactly is meant.
On the basis of texts from the last decades as well as three practical examples, the students learn 1. to know and distinguish between different theatre or performance terms, 2. to deal precisely with theatre-theoretical terms, 3. to read texts from the field of theatre studies precisely and 4. to argue theoretically well-founded in relation to performances and different forms of theatre.
Overall, the proseminar aims at a competent and independent handling of theoretical terms in the context of a plurality of theatre terms.
