From Fanny Elsßler’s shoe to the concept of transformative works: What is a fan and what does fandom mean? Which conceptions of subjectivity fuel specific modes of presentation and how does participation – subversive as well as affirmative – change the relationship between production and reception? How will notions like authorship or oeuvre have to be rethought against the backdrop of democratic structures (fair use) and legal aspects (copyright)? Is there an inherent possibility in fandom and fan works to grasp creative contexts as a form of cultural acting? How do these questions invite the development of new theoretical frameworks?

• Transdisciplinary awareness and understanding of current developments in performative/media cultures
• Independent application of interdisciplinary theoretic approach to selected contexts and samples
• Theory design with regards to transdisciplinary questions and impulsesContents:
The class deals with fandom cultures – in particular in relation to serial formats of the past 25 years – and their role as a growing field of academic research. Central to the class are aspects of partiuclar relevance to theater and media studies, such as intermediality, participation/agency and the performance of affective cultures and positions of subjectivity. Methods: reading, debate, analysis, reflection, instructed/independent small-group workThis class is called "Season 2" because it is given for a second time. It does not require, in any way, having attended "Season 1". The classes are, discounting small changes, identical.
