Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This seminar is organized in cooperation with the Vienna Library (Dr. Katharina Prager) and the TFM Archive (Dr. Birgit Peter).
The focus is on the biographies of theater actors, theater directors, directors and people who worked in theater and/or film in Vienna and of whom there is currently no visible memory. In the seminar we focus on researching biographies about women and queer people (research location QVienna) and the reconstruction of their careers.
We will find these people on historical playbills, historical theater reviews, in historical artistic dictionaries and in theater yearbooks.
Students will learn how and where to research a person's name, career and life history data.
The focus is on the use of analogue archives, such as the TFM Archive, the Vienna Library, the Vienna City and State Archives and the Austrian State Archives. Students are trained in advance to use these archives.
In the seminar, considerations are made as to how forgotten cultural and urban history can be told on the basis of biographical research and individual life stories.
The students receive training from the cooperation partner Vienna Library on how to create a Vienna Wiki entry and complete the seminar with the self-designed entry.
Goal:
The seminar promotes basic biographical and historical research. Competences in the field of research and in-depth research in archives and databases are taught.
The focus is on data collection and evaluation, as well as the historical contextualization of the material found using historical research literature. Learning how to create a wiki entry.

Methods:
Biographical research: Research in analogue and digital archives, reference works and databases. Professional data collection and processing.
In-depth research and historical contextualization. Archive visits
