170521 UE Production processes and aesthetics of performance art (2018W)

In these courses, the production processes and aesthetic forms of contemporary free performing arts are imparted. The realization of projects in the field of dance and performance is dependent on certain framework conditions, which have to do with promotion, time, space, personnel and public and follows other parameters as own productions of e.g. Ensemble-Theaters. Even the production houses, where the free artists show their productions, work differently than city-theaters or music-theatres, both in terms of their curatorial task and in terms of their personal and budgetary composition. And the dance and performance art of the present is a perception-aesthetic challenge that one does not have to learn in school socialization, but has to work through it. Together with the students, 3 fields are to be worked on which focus on the specificity of production processes and aesthetics of performance art: Field 1 covers the specific project realization in their processes. Field 2 covers the organizational structures of production houses. Field 3 includes the performance analysis of dance and performance art. In this course, students will learn about the complexity of independent theater work, the working structures of production houses and the aesthetics of contemporary free-stage arts through practical exercises and performance analyzes. For this purpose, experts are invited and performances in contemporary dance and performance houses in Vienna are visited, e g. Tanzquartier, brut Wien and WUK performing arts.
