170562 UE A Cinema Archipelago - Contemporary Phillipine Filmmaking (2015W)

Continuous assessment of course work

During the last decade, the Philippines became one of international film culture's most widely celebrated film cultures; once again, one should add, as already back in the 1980s, Philippinen cinema was widely celebrated abroad as well as at home. This course offers an overview of current Philippine cinema spanning the whole range of film production cultures -- from underground via arthouse to mainstream cinema; special attention will be paid to the way these works and their makers deal with Philippine political and cultural history. It is likely that we'll attend a screening at the Viennale as part of the course, but we'll have to wait for the program's unveiling to say something more precise about that.

Information
