Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Title: Fragile Situations. Modes of action of contemporary theatre and dance performances.
The programming of relevant festivals and production houses is characterised by an offer that shows little inclination to meet conventional expectations of theatre and dance. Instead, fundamental theoretical positions in the understanding of the basic theatrical situation and thus also modes of action change in quick succession with the performances.
In his monograph "Theatre and Dance Performance", published in 2020, Gerald Siegmund traces relevant developments and discusses terms and positions, with which this book fans out a set of tools that invites us to analyse the diversity of contemporary theatre and dance performances and thereby to distinguish different modes of effect from one another more precisely. This is the aim of the seminar, which in a first stage will use a joint reading of the above-mentioned volume to focus on themes and questions that will also be discussed in a second stage with regard to current productions of the Viennese performance scene.

Assessment and permitted materials
