Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Festivals are time-limited and therefore have the possibility to focus on one topic, one discourse, one art or one main idea. This is what makes them so special. From a structural point of view, as well as with regard to organizational and financing structures, questions of location and, above all, questions of content programming and objectives, they differ essentially from institutions that have to be thought about over a longer period of time.
This course is intended to provide insights into the programming and organizational structures of theater, dance and performance festivals in the broad sense and Viennese festivals in particular. Different festivals will be presented and their various content-related implications as well as the specific requirements of their realization will be discussed. In the context of the current measures to curb COVID-19, different events within festivals will be visited together and talks with festival makers will be organized. At best, the course is meant to impart knowledge about the complexity in festival realization.
