Aims, contents and method of the course
Die Lehrveranstaltung beruht auf der Lektüre und der gemeinsamen Diskussion klassischer Texte aus der relevanten Literatur. Ebenso werden allgemeine Literaturhinweise gegeben und weiterführende Literatur zu den einzelnen Themen empfohlen werden.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Die Modalbegriffe (Notwendigkeit, Möglichkeit, Kontingenz, Unmöglichkeit) haben eine sowohl logische wie ontologische Bedeutung, die zuerst bei Aristoteles thematisiert wurde und in der gegenwärtigen Debatte im Rahmen der Logik, der Metaphysik (nach dem sprachanalytischen Ansatz) und der Wissenschaftstheorie zum Tragen kommt.
Ziel der Lehrveranstaltung ist die Rekonstruktion der Bedeutung der Modalbegriffe und deren Entwicklung anhand der Kernfragen der Philosophie mit besonderer Berücksichtigung des Substanzbegriffs
