Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

There is little controversy about the fact that Spinoza's writings had a profound influence on German philosophy and literature. Lessing, Herder, Goethe but also Hegel, Schelling, Schleiermacher and Heine all read and critically reacted to Spinoza's legacy. As Hegel polemically claimed in his lectures on the history of philosophy: You are either a Spinozist or not a philosopher at all. The seminar is an introduction to Spinoza's philosophy highlighting his importance for subsequent philosophers to this day.
