180056 SE Reading Chinese Philosophy (2012W)

Identity, Comparison, Interaction between Latin American and European

5.00 ECTS (2.00 SWS), SPL 18 - Philosophie
Continuous assessment of course work

The contribution of dealing with Chinese philosophy in pre-Revolutionary modern times to the period of enlightment is seldom acknowledged in an adequate manner.
After the reception of the Chinese classics, which were transmitted by the Jesuits, the "Rede über die praktische Philosophie der Chinesen" ("Speech about the Practical Philosophy of the Chinese") (1721) of Christian Wolff is the climax of these efforts.
In the seminar two aspects will be emphasized: First of all the specific European way of dealing with the Chinese philosophy, secondly the specific character of the Chinese enlightment.
