Aims, contents and method of the course

The first part of this lecture deals with Walter Benjamin´s analysis of film; part two with the film books of Stanley Cavell and Robert Pippin; and part three with Gilles Deleuze and the philosophical discourse "after Deleuze" (Lyotard; Badiou; Ranciere).

Assessment and permitted materials

Written examination (90 minutes)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

A survey of various approaches in film philosophy.

Examination topics

Lecture (accompanied by private reading) (VO-L).

A) A folder containing the texts analyzed in the lecture will be available at the library of the Department of Philosophy.
B) Private study, VO-L: Participants have to choose two (out of five) texts named at the beginning of the course and study them privately (as accompanying reading). (List of texts: see LV-Literatur, Unterrichtssprache.)
