Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this seminar is the evaluation of class observations and professionalizing the planning of teaching-units, as well as deliberating concepts of teaching philosophy.

After recapitulating what is important in every teaching concept (didactical justification of the subject, formulation of learning objective, selection of appropriate material, formulation of expedient questions and assignments, arranging of so called joints between phases, lesson phases, methodical organization, the way tasks must be worked out such as group work or pair work etc., progress of lesson and unit), criteria of lesson observations will be debated and results of lesson observations will be discussed.
Concerning the methodical organization of lessons, students will receive knowledge of general (interdisciplinary) teaching methods. Furthermore they will work with different methods of text recognition (“Sentence-by-Sentence”, “Think-Pair-Share” etc.) as well as with I. Kant’s considerations on the function of examples in view of the formation of the mind and power of judgement.
The students‘ lessons in progress in the practical phase are one focus of the seminar. Individual teaching projects will be discussed exemplary in terms of didactic and methodology, in order to consider alternative approaches.
Another focal point of the seminar is the critical reflection of current didactic considerations and concepts of teaching philosophy including the official syllabus (“Lehrplan der allgemeinbildenden höheren Schulen”, see „Gesamte Rechtsvorschrift für Lehrpläne – allgemeinbildende höhere Schulen, Fassung vom 21.11.2019“). Our point of departure for this critical reflection is the question of what philosophy is. The answer to this question will be worked out during the seminar with exemplary texts of I. Kant, G. Deleuze and F. Guattari in order to discuss present considerations and concepts of didactic on the subject of philosophy.

During this class theoretical inputs on the part of the lecturer, group and pair work among the students as well as presentations and plenary discussions will take turns. Reading texts and writing short papers are mandatory. At the end of the seminar you will hand in a paper in the sense of a portfolio about didactic concepts of teaching philosophy as well as the individual teaching project consisting of at least 6 individual lessons.
